MW Tools, Most Wanted MWDX

MWDX

Most Wanted on Direct3D 11 or 12, with Direct3D 9 one setting away.

MWDX installs as a replacement d3d9.dll beside speed.exe. It reads one setting and runs the game through Direct3D 11 or Direct3D 12, or passes it straight through to Direct3D 9. The game believes throughout that it is talking to Direct3D 9, and no game file is changed.

It is a renderer, not an enhancement mod: it draws what the original renderer drew, the same geometry, materials and look, on a newer API. The translation is our own; it does not use D3D9On12, D3D11On12, DXVK or WineD3D.

Choosing a renderer

BackendState
1 Direct3D 9Complete. The original renderer, passed through untouched.
2 Direct3D 11Plays the whole game. One known fault: the speedometer needle, the speed digits and the minimap's contents don't draw.
3 Direct3D 12Complete, HUD included, and the one we recommend.

If a machine can't provide the renderer asked for, MWDX falls back to one it can and says why in its log, rather than failing to start. MWDX.log records which backend was asked for and which is running; MWDX-render.log holds the rest.

To uninstall, delete d3d9.dll and MWDX.ini.
