OpenSF, the game called Soldier Front Legacy, plays Soldier Front's own maps, weapons, soldiers, sounds and lobby art, read from the game's data where it lies. The program around them is new: the renderer, the menus, the netcode and the options. Its server, LegacySFServer, is the one we run, and anyone can run it.
What is new
- Frame rate. The original client holds itself to 32 frames a second. Soldier Front Legacy has no cap of its own: the limit is yours, from 30 to 360.
- Controllers. Xbox controllers, DualShock 4 and DualSense, by cable or Bluetooth, with every action bindable and the lobby usable from the pad. No aim assist: a controller plays the same match as a mouse.
- Renderers. Direct3D 12 first, then Direct3D 11, then OpenGL, at real pixels on any Windows scaling, windowed or borderless, in every common aspect ratio.
- One account. A Team Vanilla account keeps rank, record, items, clan and friends, and follows a player to every server. A server never sees the password.
- Servers for anyone. One program for Windows or Linux, listed once it is reachable, with its own staff, channels, shop and content packs.
- Every game type. All of the original waiting room's game types, played by their own rules on the server, with bots that play the objective.
Downloads, server guides and screenshots are on the game's own site, sf.teamvanilla.dev.
